WHAT IS “BIBLICAL COUNSELLING?”
A fresh approach
Life can be riddled with struggles that sometimes make us feel hopeless. The good news is there are always answers in scripture.
These answers can be hard to decipher and even harder to apply. But the God we serve is a God of miracles, one who transforms people’s hearts and lives each and every day.
As an extension of the Church, and believers in Jesus Christ, biblical counsellors seek to act as Jesus would; to know your struggles, care about them, and walk alongside you.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)

The Bible
I believe the Bible to be the complete Word of God; that the sixty-six books, as originally written, comprising the Old and New Testaments were verbally inspired by the Spirit of God and were entirely free from error; that the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice and the true basis of Christian union.

God
I believe in one God, Creator of all, holy, sovereign, eternal, existing in three equal Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ
I believe in the absolute and essential deity of Jesus Christ, in His eternal existence with the Father in pre-incarnate glory, in His virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, triumphant ascension, mediatorial ministry and personal return.

The Holy Spirit
I believe in the absolute and essential deity and personality of the Holy Spirit Who convinces of sin, of righteousness and of judgment; Who regenerates, sanctifies, illuminates and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ.

She helped my daughter reflect on what she truly believed, and how her belief in a God who sustains and provides and heals could change her life.
Sandy was a true blessing for my daughter during a very difficult time at the start of high school. She was struggling with her friendships and self-esteem, and we watched her withdraw further into herself, even resorting to self-harm...Sandy encouraged her to dig into Scripture, specifically the Psalms, to help her find her voice and express her feelings, and cry out to God just like the Psalmists did. Sandy also gave exercises that challenged her to think beyond herself and see the big picture. Sandy never tried to be “cool" or become her friend, but instead, she was a steady source of stability, encouragement and challenge during this critical time. We are deeply grateful for Sandy when we needed her most. Today my daughter is a thriving, stable, and happy teen who loves the Lord with all her heart, and Sandy played a large role in that.

“
I'm grateful for the helpful and important role that Sandy was able to have on this individual's journey. I highly recommend Sandy to anyone considering Christian counselling.
As a lead pastor there are times where I feel someone needs more specific help than I am able to give through pastoral care and counsel. A situation came up that I felt needed professional guidance and I was able to refer a young adult in our congregation to Sandy. Through counselling sessions this individual gained perspective on their current situation, was able to unpack and gain insight from their past and was able to move forward into a new future as a changed person with healthier relationships. I can still see the difference in this individual today. I'm grateful for the helpful and important role that Sandy was able to have on this individual's journey. I highly recommend Sandy to anyone considering Christian counselling.”
— Lead Pastor, FEB church
I have overcome many obstacles with Sandy’s guidance but one area where barriers were broken was in the area of trust which was very crucial to my recovery. Sandy is very trustworthy.
Proverbs 15:22 says “Plans fail for lack of counsel but with many advisors they succeed.” I believe this verse strongly highlights the professional relationship built from the truth that Sandy speaks regarding significant decisions. Trauma and addiction, have affected my ability to be confident in making decisions. I receive sound biblical advice during our sessions knowing that this is confidential and that Sandy is not judgemental. I have overcome many obstacles with Sandy’s guidance but one area where barriers were broken was in the area of trust which was very crucial to my recovery. Sandy is very trustworthy.

I have the utmost respect for Sandy and would, without reservation, highly recommend her for biblical counselling.
Sandy knows how to connect extremely well with people in a very non- threatening and non-assuming way. Those who speak with her sense her genuine care and interest in their lives. She is skilled in reading people (and their situations) and discerning ways in which to approach challenging circumstances with biblical wisdom and Christlike compassion. She has helped me know how to approach difficult circumstances/crises I have encountered in my ministry which has been very valuable. I have the utmost respect for Sandy and would, without reservation, highly recommend her for biblical counselling.”

“
It was truly an encouragement to me in my Christian walk, and I'm very grateful to her for the time she spent walking along my path with me.
Sandy really helped me when I was going through a difficult time in my life. She first of all listened to me and assured me that I wasn't crazy! She affirmed the feelings I was having at the time. She then pointed me toward the Scripture and we focused on what God had to say about situations such as this. It was truly an encouragement to me in my Christian walk, and I'm very grateful to her for the time she spent walking along my path with me. I'd highly recommend her services to others in the midst of uncertainty and stress."

ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Helping others with the hope and insight rooted in God’s Word with whatever challenges and difficulties they are facing. This involves listening, understanding, discussion, and seeing your situation through the lens of Scripture. Growth goals or assignments may be given as well.
Because each person’s struggle is unique, the counselling will differ depending on your situation. Some clients might need multiple sessions, some maybe one or two. That being said all sessions follow a similar framework.
Each session begins with a friendly greeting and to make sure you are comfortable and ready to begin. I open the session in a short prayer and then I listen to you share your situation. I ask questions to follow up and to clarify what is going on. We will discuss and talk about everything based on a faith-based approach. We spend time near the end of session with setting growth goals or assignments that will help you between sessions.
My fee is $120/session. This is payable at the end of each session by e-transfer. Each session is 1 hour in length. Due to my commitment to have accessible Biblical counselling for all people in all walks of life, lower rates are available for ministry families, people on ODSP, or if referred by a church.
Most insurance companies only reimburse claims for licensed registered psychotherapists or psychologists. I am not a licensed psychotherapist. I am certified as a Biblical Counsellor with the Association of Biblical Counselors.
Everyone is welcome to come for counselling and while it is faith-based approach, many people find a benefit to approach their situation with a Christian counsellor who will listen to them and help them without judgement. I will begin session with short prayer and listen thoughtfully to you. I will seek to be understanding and helpful in bringing clarity and insight to whatever it is you are going through.
